How this calculator works

Pakistan taxes salaried individuals under a progressive slab system: only the portion of your income that falls inside a given bracket is taxed at that bracket's rate, not your whole salary. This tool applies the exact slab rates and fixed amounts published by FBR in each year's Finance Act, then walks your income through the brackets to produce your payable tax.

If you enter a medical allowance, up to 10% of your annual gross salary is deducted from taxable income before tax is computed — this mirrors the standard exemption most salaried employees in Pakistan receive. The result includes your effective tax rate (total tax as a share of income), which is always lower than your top marginal slab rate — see why that's the case if the distinction is unfamiliar.

Why this site exists

FBR's own resources are accurate but not especially approachable for someone who just wants a number. This calculator, along with the filing and deduction guides alongside it, exists to make that number — and the reasoning behind it — available in under a minute, for free, without an account. The underlying slab data is maintained and checked against each year's Finance Act; see tax slabs by year for the full history back to FY 2020-21.
